This Is Not a Film About Tango: the Transcript

This is not a film about tango still for script blog on Catching Fireworks

Thank you so much to all the people who have given such wonderful feedback on my video.  It has been very touching to read your kind emails and I appreciate them greatly.

Many people have commented on the script and asked if they could have a copy, so I am happy to provide it here:

Deborah Henry-Pollard

This is not a film about tango….

it is a film about coaching.

And about tango.

The essence is the same.

Two people creating something more than can be achieved by either one on their own.

A relationship.
An experience.

The coach and coachee.
The leader and the follower
both bring their intelligence, experience, expertise.

Both are responsible for their own balance and well being.
Both are committed to the outcome and to each other.
Both are open to opportunity, to being challenged.
Both are listening, to the music with their ears
to each other with their intention.

Neither of them knows what is going to happen.

There is no set choreography,
no set coaching process.

No room for second guessing,
worrying about getting it right,
trying to please.

Space is created by one for the other to move in to,
which takes them both into a new creative possibility.

Sometimes they work together as a single thought,
until one introduces a new idea to be followed attentively
or developed.
Dynamics can be changed.

Threads explored and  followed.

The coachee never knows what step they might be invited to take.

The coach never assumes that their invitation will be accepted.

One may miss a step, but the commitment to the connection, to the experience, never falters.

Each of them prepares.

Knowing that in coaching, as in tango

nothing is wrong.

These is no judgement.

It is all a conversation.

It is all a dance.

It is collaboration.

It is connection.

It is mindfulness.

It is intention.

It is trust.

It is sharing a creative moment when anything is possible.

This was not a film about tango.
