Eleni Polycarpou is the founder and director of ARTful, a company which sources and commissions art for the corporate environment. With a background in Interior Design, Eleni has worked in both the creative and property sector, sourcing and installing art across a portfolio of commercial properties in Mayfair. Creating ARTful in 2013, Eleni provides corporate clients with sympathetically installed, contemporary art to otherwise void or dull spaces in main reception areas. Working closely with galleries and artists, ARTful offers a variety of art along with a different type of exposure and an additional platform to showcase work.
For her portfolio of corporate clients in Central London, Eleni curates rotational installations, promoting the importance of art within the most highly visible areas and how it is the most cost effective way to add value to an organisation’s identity and ethos. It's a conversation starter and it allows individuals to engage with art where they otherwise wouldn’t expect to do so, empowering creative thoughts.
In your professional life, what is the single best thing about what you do?
I love my job, installing beautiful artwork to corporate receptions. The best part is being able to provide extra exposure to artists in a different environment and allowing viewers to engage with art where they otherwise wouldn’t expect to do so.
Do you have a creative hero / heroine and if so, why?
A few, Joan Miro for being a true radical who refused to be defined by a single practice or style, a true leader.
What piece of advice do you wish you had been given at the beginning of your career?
I was actually given some great advice at college by my tutor ( which I didn’t take) and that was to follow textiles. I’ve always wondered what if…..
If you hit a creative block, what is your top tip for getting through it?
I go off and do something that I enjoy normally gardening and forget about it for a while. I find it the best form of therapy. Not only do I get to have some time out enjoying something I like but I also have time to think about my blocks through another channel and often find new ideas and thoughts coming my way.
And finally, for fun, if you were a shoe, what type of shoe would you be and why?
Probably a trainer, because it’s comfy, reliable and can take you off on a last minute adventure!
